In Room 1.81
There has been a steady barrage of attacks on a women’s reproductive rights since the Supreme Court legalized abortion in 1973 — the Hyde Amendment, laws requiring waiting periods, punitive regulations that have shuttered countless clinics across the country, and an increase in anti-abortion demonstrations and violence at clinics. The Trump administration has promised an escalation of these attacks and emboldened anti-abortion activists. In the face of these unprecedented threats to abortion rights, Nancy Pelosi announced that “abortion is a fading issue” for Democrats. Meanwhile Bernie Sanders campaigned for an anti-abortion candidate in Nebraska, claiming that Democrats “can’t exclude people who disagree with us on one issue.” Enough is enough, NYC for Abortion Rights seeks to rebuild a fighting movement that vocally, unapologetically supports abortion rights and expanded access. Join us to learn about how we arrived at this political moment, the current state of abortion rights and the major threats we anticipate to encounter in the Trump era.
