Dear ICS Member,

This is what you are up against:

• A budget that would cut SSI, SSDI and food stamps. More info: http://bit.ly/2r1S5aK
• A healthcare plan that would end the Medicaid entitlement and slash Medicaid spending. More info: http://bit.ly/2rVp0vx
• Wheelchair customization payments that will expire at the end of June unless Congress acts. More info: http://bit.ly/2qh5fkO

Your involvement in the Civics League – and taking action as a person with a disability – has never been more important. Come join us this Friday, June 2, from 2 to 4 in Brooklyn.
We will discuss actions you can take NOW to protect the federal programs you rely on. We will also discuss the future of the Civics League with the goal of moving it toward a more member-led, member- run group.

We are also asking members to volunteer to answer the question: “What could I lose if Medicaid is cut?”

Our goal is to make a series of very short (30 seconds to one minute) videos with your answers to this question and use the videos to publicize why preserving Medicaid is essential to people with disabilities.

These videos will be shared on social media and with members of Congress as Medicaid changes are debated this summer.
If you are willing to stay after the Civics League meeting to take part in this important project, please let us know by calling or emailing Regina Weiss: regina.weiss@icsny.org or 646.653.6281.

If you plan to attend the Civics League meeting this Friday, please RSVP to 1.877.958.8427 or by email to MCL@icsny.org. Refreshments will be served.

Upcoming Civics League meeting dates and times:
Friday, August 4, 2-4 pm

Meetings are held at the ICS Brooklyn Member Center, 25 Elm Place. Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be an ICS member to participate. Please remember to RSVP. For anyone who can’t make it, the meetings are broadcast live on the ICS Facebook page. Not on Facebook? Call in to 1-877-737-7049 and use the guest code 6373144.

About the Civics League

The ICS Member Civics League is a group that meets monthly and is open to all. Its purpose is to educate and support New Yorkers with disabilities and their allies in becoming advocates around any issue that concerns them. The group is a welcoming community that includes ICS members but membership is not required to participate.

ICS does not take sides in partisan politics or urge our members to do so. We encourage members of the Civics League to share ideas, tools, information and questions about how to effectively advocate for social change.
