27th Annual celebration of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act–the landmark civil rights legislation that bans discrimination against people with disabilities.
10 AM: Event program: Master of Ceremonies Yusuf Abdul-Qadir, dierector of CNY chapter of the NY Civil Liberties Union. City/County proclamation declaring July Disability Awareness Month. Lifetime Achievement award to Michael J. Kennedy–31 years working with Self-Advocates of NYS. Keynote speech by Erin Esposito–director of Ignite, an organization that fights for the rights of the deaf who are dealing with abuse. Music by David Clark Learning Center and Midler Choir of Arc of Onondaga. ASL sign language interpreters provided.
11 AM: Parade to promote disability awareness and to #SaveMedicaid through downtown Syracuse. Call-A-Bus available on first come-first serve basis for those unable to walk or roll the one-mile route.
