Assemblywoman Christine Pellegrino announced that she is accepting nominations for her Women of Distinction Awards, which highlight the contributions of extraordinary women in our community.
“As we continue to celebrate Women’s History Month, it’s important to honor the amazing work women do every single day to make Long Island a better place for all of us,” Pellegrino said. “Not a day goes by where our lives aren’t touched by women making a meaningful impact, whether it’s a teacher giving our children the gift of knowledge or an activist taking on social issues. These awards are an opportunity to give Long Island women the recognition they deserve.”
Residents can nominate women in categories including education, business, health care, community and civic affairs and volunteerism. Nominations are due by Tuesday, April 10.
A nomination form can be requested at Pellegrino’s district office at 512 Park Blvd., Massapequa Park, NY 11762, or filled out online at nyassembly.gov/Pellegrino. Nominees must reside in the 9th Assembly District, which includes portions of the towns of Babylon, Islip and Oyster Bay.
The Women of Distinction Awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 18, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 25, located at 370 Vanderbilt Motor Parkway A, Hauppauge, NY 11788.
Pellegrino has been an advocate for women across New York State, helping to pass numerous pieces of legislation to strengthen women’s rights, including legislation to protect women’s reproductive freedom and a bill that prevents domestic violence abusers from having access to firearms (A.5025). Pellegrino also organized a #MeToo forum at Stony Brook University featuring the movement’s founder, Tarana Burke, to discuss tackling and preventing sexual harassment, sexual violence, and sexual assault.
