This is a capacity building workshop to increase community and peer knowledge about transgender care navigation, including surgery planning, other medical needs, and legal concerns specific to transgender people in New York City and the metro area.
This will be a two hour meeting with an agenda. Agenda TBD and will be open for feedback and formulation on the wall of this group.
This initial session to establish an ongoing working group is for:
1) Transgender people doing this work already in their “professional” lives, looking to create more peer and community capacity for this work.
2) Transgender people who want to become peer navigators for other trans people regardless of background knowledge, and feel good about committing to future meetings and trainings (monthly?)
3) Cisgender people who have some combination of the following background:
-Are fluent in multiple languages
-hold identities that experience medical marginalization (POC, Women, Disabled, Fat, GNC ppl not otherwise trans identified, etc)
-significant healthcare adjacent experience (particularly liscenced clinicians and legal/social service providers)
-Who feel good about committing to future meetings and trainings (monthly?)
The goal is to develop more drop-in trainings, so please evaluate your ability to commit to a few meetings before attending.
