With the growing tension between the US and Iran and the looming threat of war, there have been calls for us to reconvene the STOP WAR WORKING GROUP and meet to discuss actions on Long Island to express visible and sustained action to prevent another endless war.
We have scheduled a meeting on Thursday, February 20, 2-4 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at shelter Rock, 48 Shelter Rock Road, Manhasset.
Please RSVP to let us know if you can attend. Also forward invite to others and other groups who might be interested in working together to prevent war with Iran.
There has been strong responses throughout the country and on Long Island with vigils and protests on Januray 9 and January 25.
Our goal for this meeting is to discuss how we can make our opposition to a US war with Iran more visible to the public and the media, recruit more people to make calls, write letters, to participate in vigils; set up meetings with Reps for an ongoing dialogue about solving the conflict without any more military action; and to rapidly respond to this emergency of war with Iran and work closely with Code Pink, Peace Action and other national groups. We could also develop some priorities as we move forward in 2020. There are many challenges and with the threats of nuclear war and global climate change, it’s now 100 seconds to midnight!
Look forward to seeing you.
